About Hudd
Hudd is a social platform for anyone who wants to stay in touch with the people around them without spending hours on their phone. Hudd is for parents of young children, volunteers, business owners, friend groups, and every individual in Scandinavia.
On Hudd, you decide what shows up in your «For you» feed. You can also filter your feed to show only friends and followers, specific municipalities, or interest categories. All content is shown chronologically, with no algorithm-suggested content. Behind every post, comment and profile is a real person, verified with BankID, Vipps or MitID.
💙 Create a Hudd account today and join groups, find events, see content from your local community, follow local organisations and businesses, and chat with friends and family.
Hudd is an alternative to today's major social media platforms. We give you more control over your personal data by never selling it to third parties (for example, for ad content). When you delete your Hudd account, all your data is deleted with it.
We also offer a safer digital everyday life through verification. Every user on Hudd uses their real name and is linked to a real person. That means you always know who you're talking to, and it's easy to hold someone accountable if you experience something uncomfortable or unlawful.
Last but not least: no algorithms. On Hudd you won't get an endless feed based on what you've previously engaged with. See everything in chronological order, and put your phone away when you're done.
Download the Hudd app on your phone, or click «Log in» at the top right of this page. In the app, you can log in with the BankID app or Vipps in Norway, BankID in Sweden, and MitID in Denmark. Norwegian users who want to sign up and log in via a browser can currently only use Vipps.
Click «Continue with …» and choose the third-party provider you want to use to create your Hudd account.
Read how to create an account for your organisation, business or municipality here.
No, using Hudd as a private individual is free.
You can choose to pay a monthly amount to become a supporter. Building an alternative social platform isn't free, and we appreciate all the support we get. From just NOK 25 a month, you can become a Hudd Supporter. You do this by clicking «Support Hudd» on your profile or in the app's side menu. The subscription is billed through your Apple ID or Google Play.
As a thank-you to our supporters, we've started releasing some features exclusively for them:
💎 Hudd Supporters can attach 10 media files, not just five.
💎 Hudd Supporters can have up to three categories and municipalities on their profile, to be found more easily.
💎 Hudd Supporters get their own badge next to their name and on their profile. The badge shows that they're helping build an alternative social platform in Scandinavia.
Profile and personal information
Go to your profile via the side menu. Then tap the camera icon in front of your profile picture, or the pencil icon next to «Personal information» under the «Details» tab. Here you can edit most things, except your address and date of birth, which are pulled from the National Population Register in Norway, BankID in Sweden, and MitID in Denmark.
You can't change your name directly, but if you have multiple names, you can choose to hide your middle name by tapping the pencil icon next to your name once more.
In the browser, you'll find the same editing options on your profile – click «Edit profile details».
In the app: Go to your profile and tap the camera icon in front of your profile picture, or the pencil icon next to «Personal information» under the «Details» tab. Then tap the same icon next to your name. In the browser: Click «Edit profile details» on your profile, and click the pencil icon next to your name.
Hudd only fetches updated name and address information from the National Population Register/BankID/MitID when you log out and back in. In the app: Go to your profile, tap the three dots at the top right, then tap the gear icon to log out. In the browser: Click your profile picture and name at the top right to log out. The change can sometimes take a little time. If it still doesn't work, clearing your browser's cache may help: Open your browser → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → choose to delete cached images and files (cache) → click Clear data. Then close your browser completely, reopen it, and log out and back in to Hudd.
The first time you log in to Hudd, you'll choose visibility settings for your information, but this can be changed at any time, both in the app and in the browser. In the app: Open the side menu and select «Settings», then «My privacy settings». Here you can choose which audience sees which piece of information, by opening the dropdown menu to the right of each item. In the browser: Click your profile picture and name at the top right to find «Settings» and «My privacy settings».
Next to each piece of personal information, you can choose who can see it. Remember to save at the bottom of the page once you've made your choices.
World: All Hudd users in Scandinavia.
Country: All users in the country you live in.
Friends only: All users you're friends with on Hudd.
Only me: Only you can see your own information.
On this page you can also:
Turn the follower system and friend-request system on or off. This controls whether people can follow you and send you friend requests.
Turn off Hudd's permission to send you messages in chat on the platform.
Hide Morning Coffee from your home screen.
Turn off visibility of your children's and your own birthday. Birthdays appear in your friends' Morning Coffee on the birthday date.
Turn off the ability for other users to «knock on» your door on the map.
Hide yourself as a suggestion in Find friends (the Friend Finder), found in the middle of the main menu.
Friends and followers
There are several ways to find friends on Hudd:
Search for them: Tap the large magnifying glass on the home screen, and type in the name of the person you're looking for. You can also search for people based on the municipality they live in – filter to «Users» and use «Filter by» to choose a municipality. Tap the plus sign to the right of the name to send a friend request, or go to the profile and tap «+Add friend». The person must accept the request before you become friends. In the browser, you can search for people by clicking «Search» in the left-hand main menu, filtering to «Users» and searching by name. More options for finding friends in the browser are coming soon.
Use «Find friends+», found in the middle of the main menu. Here you'll find people who live in the same municipality as you, are in the same groups as you, or share friends with you on Hudd. Use the «Next» button to see the next person, or «Add friend» to send a friend request. In the app, you can also swipe left to see the next person, and right to add them as a friend.
Use your contact list: In the app, you can see which of your contacts are on Hudd. Open the side menu and tap «My friends», then the large plus sign at the bottom right. Select «Invite and see your friends» and allow Hudd access to your contact list. You'll then see which of your contacts are already on Hudd («+Add friend») or invite them («Invite»). Via the same plus sign, you can also select «Find friends» to see your nearest neighbours on Hudd.
Share your profile: Open the side menu and tap «Share profile». You can also go to your profile and tap the share icon in front of your cover photo. Here you can display or download your unique QR code, or copy a link and send it by email, SMS, chat, and more. The recipient will land on your profile, whether they already have Hudd or after downloading the app and signing up. This feature isn't yet available on the web.
Open the map from the side menu and «knock on the door» of those living around you. Remember to include a friendly message :-)
Go to «My friends»/«Friends» via the side menu, then tap «Requests» at the top right. Select «Your requests». In the app, tap the clock icon to the right of the name of the person you want to withdraw the request from. In the browser, click the «Undo» button. Confirm your choice.
To turn on the feature: Open the side menu in the app and go to «Settings». Then tap «My privacy settings» and turn on «Follower system» at the top of the page. In the browser, you'll find «Settings» by clicking your name and profile picture at the top right. You can turn the follower system on and off whenever you like. You'll always get your followers back when you turn it on again.
People who have activated their follower system on Hudd have a visible «Follow» button on their profile. Tap it to follow them. To stop following someone, tap the same button on their profile and confirm that you want to unfollow.
Go to «Followers» on your profile. Tap the three dots to the right of the person's name and select «Remove follower».
Posts
To create a post on Hudd, tap the plus button on the home screen or on your profile. At the top of the screen, choose what kind of content you want to create (Post, Event or Alert) – you'll land on Post by default.
If you're an administrator of any groups or organisations, you can tap the arrow next to your name to change the sender and destination of the content. To publish content in a group you're not an administrator of, you need to go into the group and tap the plus sign there.
In the browser, click the field at the top of the screen that says «What's on your mind? » to open post creation.
Write your post, and attach hashtags, photos, files and drawings if you'd like. You can attach up to five media files to your post. As a Hudd Supporter, you can attach up to ten.
Next, choose a category for your post. This category determines which feed the post appears in. Friends and followers will see the post regardless, unless you've selected «Friends only» under Visibility further down the page.
Examples: If your post is about local politics in Ås, choose Ås municipality. If your post is about wanting recommendations for eco-friendly products, choose the category «Environment and sustainability». You can have one thematic and one geographic category per post. If you're posting photos from a shop opening in Bodø, choose, for example, the category «Fashion» and Bodø municipality.
Go to your profile and find your post. Tap the three small dots at the top right. Here you'll get the option to delete or edit it.
Events
You create events to invite people to a physical or digital gathering. Tap the plus sign on the home screen, on your profile, or in the group you want to create the event in. Switch from «Post» to «Event» at the top of the screen.
First, choose whether the event should be public or private. If you create a private event, you can decide on the next page whether only your friends, or only the people you invite, can see it. This is done under «Privacy». Give the event a name, set the date, and fill in a description.
You can attach photos and polls to the event. You can also tick «Event chat», where all participants can talk together before the event – for example, to agree on who's bringing which dish, or what everyone should wear.
After tapping «Publish», you can invite friends to the event. Tick the participants you want to invite, or tap «Select all» at the top right to invite all your friends. See «Sharing and reposting» in this FAQ for how to share your event outside of Hudd.
If you choose to create a public event, you can decide under «Privacy» whether anyone can join (Public and open), or whether participants need your approval as administrator first (Public and closed).
When you create a public event, you can give it two categories: one thematic and one geographic. For example, if you're a library in Molde, choose the category «Books and literature» and Molde municipality. If you're organising a street race in Bergen, choose «Sport» and Bergen municipality.
With a public event, you can also, at the bottom of the page, tick «Allow participants to invite others» if you'd like.
Tap the three small dots at the top right of the event, and select «Cancel». The event will then be deleted. Note that this is only possible before the event has started.
Tap the three dots at the top right of the event, and select «Manage». Here you'll get an overview of who is «Attending» and who «Might attend». On the same page, you can tap the inbox icon at the top right («Requests») to see who's awaiting approval, and who's been invited (depending on the event's privacy settings).
Notifications for events are turned on by default. Tap the three dots at the top right of the event, and turn off notifications by toggling the switch next to «Enable event notifications» on the left.
Alerts
Alerts, previously called critical alerts, are a feature for notifying your neighbourhood, country or all of Scandinavia about something out of the ordinary – for example a closed road, a dog loose without an owner, or a found item.
Tap the plus sign on the home screen or your profile, and switch from «Post» to «Alert» at the top of the screen. Give the alert a title, a location on the map, and a description.
Then choose who can see the alert under «Visibility»: friends, neighbours, the country you live in, or all of Scandinavia. You can also add your own alert contacts and choose to make the alert visible only to them. If you don't already have alert contacts, you can create them – see «How do I add an alert contact? » below.
Once the alert is created, it becomes visible in the feed and on the map to those you've granted visibility to, who also receive a notification. Under «Notify», you can also choose which of your friends should get a push notification about your alerts – they must accept this before the notification is activated.
You can also attach photos to the alert, or take a photo directly with the camera.
Once you've made your choices, tap «Publish alert».
To end an alert you've created, find it on your profile (in the feed or on the map) and tap «End» to show that it's over. To delete the alert entirely, select «Cancel».
Open the side menu and find «Alert management». Select «Contacts» and «Add contact». Mark which of your friends should be your alert contacts by ticking the boxes next to their names. Finish by tapping «Confirm».
Groups
To create a group on Hudd, go to «Groups» in the main menu. In the app, tap the plus button, and in the browser, «+Create group» at the top right. Then give the group a name and a description, so future members know what to expect.
Before tapping «Create», set your privacy settings and choose whether members can:
Publish content in the group without administrator approval, and
Create events.
You can also choose to give the group a thematic and a geographic category, so it lands on the right category page to be found. For example, if you want a board-game group to plan in-person meetups in Fredrikstad, it makes sense to choose the category «Hobbies and leisure» and then Fredrikstad municipality.
If the group is public and open, its posts will also appear on the category page, and to everyone following that category under «For you».
Tip: Before creating a group, tap «Discover» under Groups to see if a group already exists for what you have in mind. You can also search for specific groups with the magnifying glass. This helps us avoid many groups with similar themes and few members, and instead build bigger, richer communities 💙
Private: Only the participants themselves can see the group, its members or its content. The group can't be shared or invited to via a link or QR code. Members must be approved by the group's administrator(s).
Public and closed: Everyone on Hudd can see the group's name and its members, but not its content. Members must be approved by the group's administrator(s).
Public and open: Everyone can see the group, its members and its content. Anyone who wants to can join without approval.
When you publish a post to a group with the «Administrator-approved content» setting, your post won't appear in the group until the administrator has approved it.
Yes. As a group administrator, you can add more by tapping «Manage» in the group, then «Edit group details». Then tap «Administrators» to add more of your Hudd friends as group administrators.
Chat
Tap «Chat» in the main menu, then the plus sign in the app, and «New chat» (or just «New chat» in the browser). Search for and select which friends you want in the conversation – everyone you select joins the same chat. Finally, tap «Start chat», and give the chat a name if you'd like. Then you can start the conversation.
You can also start a one-on-one chat from the profile of the person you want to talk to. Just tap the chat icon on their profile and write a message.
In a one-on-one chat, just tap the speaker icon at the top right inside the chat to mute notifications. To turn off notifications in a group chat, go into the chat you want to mute and tap the gear icon at the top right. Tap the same icon again and remove the checkmark next to «Turn on notifications».
Go into the chat and tap the gear icon at the top right. Tap the same icon again and select «Leave chat». Confirm your choice, and you're out of the chat.
As the administrator of a chat, you can remove participants who were added by mistake or who behave inappropriately. To do this, go into the chat and tap the gear icon at the top right. On this page you'll see an overview of all participants. Tap the trash-can icon to the right of the name of the person you want to remove, then select «Save changes» to confirm the removal. If you tapped the wrong person, or want to keep them in the group chat, just tap the x icon that appears to the right of their name.
Yes! The administrator can always choose to «Allow other participants to invite others». Do this by going into the chat and tapping the gear icon at the top right. Here the administrator can turn the permission on and off.
Sharing and reposting
From the Hudd app, you can share your own and others' profiles, and invite people with and without Hudd to join groups and events.
Open the side menu and tap «Share profile». You can also go to your profile and tap the share icon in front of your cover photo. Choose whether you want to share the link directly via email, SMS or social media, copy the link, or show/download the QR code.
Sharing invitation links and QR codes is currently only possible from the app. The recipient must also open the QR code with their phone camera, or open the link on their phone.
Go to the account you want to share, and tap the share icon at the top right of the account. Choose whether you want to share the link directly via email, SMS or social media, copy the link, or show/download the QR code.
Go into the group you want to share, and tap «Invite». Choose whether you want to share the link directly via email, SMS or social media, copy the link, or show/download the QR code. Note that you can't share a group with the privacy setting «Private».
Tap the three small dots at the top right of the event post. Choose whether you want to share the link directly via email, SMS or social media, copy the link, or show/download the QR code.
Currently, you can't share a post outside of Hudd, but you can share your own or someone else's post to a chat by tapping the paper-plane icon under the post.
You can repost a post or event on Hudd by tapping the two arrows under the post/event. Choose whether to repost directly, or add your own thoughts.
You can also repost public content to one of your public groups or organisation accounts. Select «Repost with your own thoughts», and change the sender by tapping the arrow next to your name at the top of the screen. Select the group or organisation account you want the repost to appear on. Note that the content will then be reposted with the group's or organisation account's name as the sender.
Notifications
On the Hudd platform itself, you'll get notifications about everything, but you can control which push notifications you want under «My notifications». You'll find this under «Settings» in the app's side menu. In the browser, you'll find «Settings» by clicking your name and profile picture at the top right.
At the top of «My notifications», you can turn off all the notifications listed below. Note that you'll still get notifications from your chats on Hudd – to turn those off too, you'll need to go into your phone's settings and remove Hudd's permission to send you notifications. You can also mute notifications from individual chats: Go into the chat, tap the gear icon at the top right, tap the same icon again, and remove the checkmark next to «Turn on notifications».
To turn off notifications about new posts from specific groups, go into the group(s), tap «More …», and select «Mute notifications for group».
This could be a technical glitch, but it could also be that you haven't checked «Requests» on the platform. In several places, you'll find an inbox icon, or an inbox icon with the text «Requests», at the top right. This may contain pending friend requests, chat requests, group invitations, or requests to join one of your groups. Check Chat, Groups, your events, and your friends list to see if anything's waiting for you.
If a friend of yours has a birthday, it will appear in Morning Coffee. If you've hidden Morning Coffee under «My privacy settings», you won't be able to see who has a birthday.
Photos, videos and files
Hudd supports the image formats JPEG, PNG, GIF and HEIC (max 30 MB), as well as the video formats MP4 and MOV (max 80 MB).
You can attach a maximum of five media files to your content on Hudd. As a Hudd Supporter, you can attach up to ten.
You can upload PDF, Excel, CSV, Word and PowerPoint files. This is currently only possible in the app.
Reporting and blocking
Go to the profile of the person you want to block by tapping their name or profile picture. Find the gear icon at the top right, and select «Block user».
Blocking hides the person's content, and they can no longer message you in chat. Full blocking will launch in September 2026.
Go to «My friends» from the side menu or your profile. Tap the icon showing a red person at the top left in the app, or «Blocked users» in the browser. Here you'll see everyone you've blocked, and can tap the x to the right of the name of the person you want to unblock.
On Hudd, you can report posts, comments, events, alerts and people. Tap the three dots at the top right of the content, and select «Report». Choose a reason for the report, and add more details if you'd like. Finish by tapping «Send report». You're also very welcome to send reports by email to [email protected]. You'll find our code of conduct here.
Logging in and out
To use Hudd, you generally need a registered address in Scandinavia, plus the BankID app, Vipps or MitID on your phone. Also check which browser you're using – see the next point about login problems in the browser.
This is usually because your browser is blocking information that needs to be sent back to Hudd after you've verified your identity. The most common causes are:
Third-party cookies are blocked – logging in via Vipps/BankID/MitID requires your browser to allow this.
Cookies are blocked entirely, so the page can't store your login information.
Tracking protection or ad blockers are interfering with the login process.
Old cookies or browser extensions are causing problems.
The wrong date or time on your device can cause security certificates to fail.
Try the following:
Open your browser and go to Settings → Privacy or Site settings, and make sure cookies are allowed, and that third-party cookies aren't blocked.
Temporarily turn off any tracking protection or ad blocking.
Clear your cache and cookies: Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → select cookies and cached files.
Try logging in using incognito/private mode, or in a different browser.
Temporarily disable browser extensions.
Check that the date and time on your device are correct.
Once you've changed your settings, close your browser completely, reopen it, and try logging in again. If the problem continues, please contact us and let us know which browser and device (phone/PC model and operating system, e.g. iOS 26 or Android 14) you're using, and we'll help you further.
In the app: Go to your profile via your profile picture at the top left → tap the three dots at the top right → tap the gear icon that appears in the same corner → select «Log out». In the browser: Click your profile picture and name at the top right → select «Log out».
Account and subscription
In the app: Go to your profile → tap the pencil icon next to «Personal information» under the «Details» tab, or the camera icon in front of your profile picture → tap the gear icon that appears in the top right corner → select «Delete account»/«Deactivate account». In the browser: Go to your profile and click «Edit profile details» to bring up three dots you can click, and select «Delete account»/«Deactivate account».
If you can't do it yourself, you can contact us – we'll then ask for at least your date of birth and address, to make sure we delete the right account.
You can do this from the side menu under «Support Hudd», or from your Apple ID or Google Play under Subscriptions.
We're glad to help with this. Please contact us with the deceased's full name, phone number, address and date of birth, along with documentation of the death and of your relationship to the person, for security reasons. Take the time you need – there's no rush.

Include the link to your organisation account on Hudd permanently at the bottom of your newsletter, or keep it in the «About» or biography section of your other digital channels.
Tap the three small dots at the top right of the event post. Choose whether you want to share the link directly via email, SMS or social media, copy the link, or show/download the QR code.
Account and subscription
Yes! Under «Team» within the account, you can add more administrators to your public account. Note: You must be Hudd friends with the people you want to add, as only they can be added to the team. Anyone you invite to join the team must also accept the request on their own private Hudd account.
Go to «Settings» in the side menu, and find «Leave organisation». If you're the main administrator of the organisation, you must transfer responsibility to one of the other team members – if you don't, the entire account will be deleted.
On the «Premium tools» page, found in the side menu, you can always see which tools you have. Tap «Manage» in the box for each tool to activate or cancel the subscription.
If you delete your organisation account, any subscriptions to extra tools will also be cancelled automatically.
